You will face many rivals at first, Macedon, Pontus, Seleucids, Thrace and Romans, but once you have all of greece under you control and west coast of Turkey, your well on your way to winning. Greeks: in my greece campaigns, as long as i build either trader or roads in all my cities on the starting turn and do a mix of financial buildings after that, by the 5th turn i have a little over 10,000 denarii coming in. One thing though is that never attack the romans with libyan infantry, 'cause the romans with their hastati and all just screw those guys, wait until atleast poeni infantry or just do massed war elephant armies. I like many factions but the ones that make everything more challenging and eventful is the carthaginians or the greeks(i like the seleucids too but after you annihilate egypt and parthia you bascically pawn everyone else!)Ĭarthage: Beggining is a bit tough having to face the Scipii and the Greeks on Sicily, and the Spaniards in spain but once you have cash flowing in you are in a goode position to attack Italy. Destroy Armenia and Pontus before they can build units like Cataphract Archers and Pontic Heavy Cavalry, which will run you off the field if you aren't careful, then smash easily through the infantry heavy armies of your other foes, using steppe tactics to limit your own casualties. They start on the edge of the map, facing off against Armenia, Selucia, and Egypt, with Pontus not too far behind. Parthia: If you want one of the worst starting positions in the game, with some of the best second tier cavalry around, go Parthia. March on Rome and the Italian penninsula, now that you should never have to worry about your economy again. Run the greeks off the peleponessus, but don't pursue unless you really want to take on the great cavalry civilizations early. Do not physically engage phalangites, use your arrows to rip them to shreds. With Horse archers and generals, burn it south onto the Balkan Penn, and run right through Macedon before their power builds. Get trade with everybody to help build your economy. Scythia: Their starting economy is crap, but their steppe warfare style is unmatched. Hit Pergamum early, then take the rest of Asia Minor (Pontus before Halicarnassus) and also hit Egypt and Parthia early. The Seleucid Empire - So do you fancy taking on four factions at once with no allies, Militia Hoplites and a lot of luck? Great fun, but your starting position is terrible. You also have few decent units below MInor City level. You have to take all of Asia Minor and the Greek Islands, before you are really financially secure. You have to steamroller Pontus immediately or you lose.
